Building Block is a summer workshop series to learn the basics of building outdoor, wooden structures. It’s a space for anyone who has felt excluded from learning these skills because of their gender. Classes include 5-7 people and plenty of time to ask questions as you learn to build.

Workshop #1: Build a Planter

This workshop introduces you to drilling, cutting with a circular saw, and cutting with a jigsaw. Over the course of six hours, you’ll practice how to work with these different tools and then apply what you learned to a small, square planter you can use indoors or outdoors. At the end of the day, everyone will take home their own planter. The workshop includes snacks and drinks throughout the day.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll learn…

how to choose the right materials for a project best practices/safety for basic outdoor carpentry tools basic structural theory and building techniques how to use an impact drill to attach two pieces of wood how to use a circular saw to cut wood how to use a jigsaw to create a space to carry your planter
